Take a peek at the system I use to learn skills and grow my business here.
I've been meaning to write this post for quite some time, but haven't gotten around to doing it. (Humor!)
Procrastination is a word I learned at a very young age because it was a big part of my life. It is a behavior that I find myself slipping into easily if I don't monitor myself.
Procrastination will bring your business to a stand still if you find yourself there often, so let's look at some causes of procrastination and ways you can get things done and grow your business.
Fear – when it comes to business, there are so many things that can create fear. There is fear of failure, success, creating videos, creating a blog, asking for help, writing emails, or calling leads.
What it all boils down to, is fear of making a fool of ourselves, of being embarrassed.
Someone once told me that when I try something new, I'll suck, but then I'll get better as I practice. That actually took a lot of pressure off me, and they were right, I sucked, and then I got better!
So be prepared to suck when you start, keep practicing, and then get better.
Fatigue – we often put off what needs to be done when we are just too tired to do it. So I recommend that same thing that your mother would probably tell you…
Eat well, be sure that you are getting adequate rest, drink plenty of water, and eat nutritious foods.
Determine what time of day your brain functions best and get your most difficult tasks done then.
For me, my brain doesn't even wake up until noon, so I schedule my big activities in the afternoon and early evening.
Overwhelm – I hear this a lot! If you find yourself saying that you are overwhelmed, you are doing more harm than good. You will eventually start believing what you tell yourself, so without going into too much detail here, please, do yourself a favor and stop using the word overwhelm.
Instead, learn one new thing today, and then know that you are one step closer to where you want to be.
Be supportive of yourself and proclaim that you are getting better and better.
Try that for 30 days and then let me know how you enjoy the results.
Leave a comment below and let me know how you are able to get a handle on your procrastinating habits.
Much love,
Cathy
P.S. Share this with a fellow procrastinator, and do it now. LOL!
